In addition to the laws of the state of Iowa, estates and trusts are also affected by state and federal tax laws as well as state and federal court interpretations of statuses and other common law.
Probate estates (assets passing by will or for those who die without a will) are conducted under court supervision. Assets within a trust are generally handled without court supervision unless an interested party asks the court to intervene.
