Iowa Law

Two separate Iowa statutory sections cover trust and probate matters. The full Iowa code section for each is available by pushing the respective link below.

Iowa Probate Code

Iowa Trust Code

In addition to the laws of the state of Iowa, estates and trusts are also affected by state and federal tax laws as well as state and federal court interpretations of statuses and other common law.

Probate estates (assets passing by will or for those who die without a will) are conducted under court supervision. Assets within a trust are generally handled without court supervision unless an interested party asks the court to intervene.
